According to the "13th Five-Year Plan", China will accelerate the development of advanced nuclear power, high-efficiency solar power, wind power, energy storage, and other areas of the energy industry. The aim is to improve the profitability of new energy sources and to develop new kinds of power grids in order to exploit even more optimization potential. By 2020, nuclear, wind, solar and biomass are expected to account for more than 8% of total energy consumption in China.
Not only does Germany view the development of renewable energy as an important strategic decision for ensuring energy security, diversified energy supply and alternative energy sources, it also considers it an important measure to reduce carbon emissions and environmental problems caused by fossil fuels. Germany is a global leader in the development and use of solar energy, wind energy, biomass, geothermal energy and hydropower. The German Association of Renewable Energies is assuming that electricity generation from renewable energies in Germany will cover about half of the country's electricity needs by 2020. Germany has decided to shut down all 17 nuclear power plants by 2022, which will greatly accelerate the development of renewable energies.
